Cinematography:The first thing the audience see on the opening of the film is the title of the film and a man slowly progressing closer and closer to the screen on crutchtes. The title is in the middle of the shot this is called a mid angle shot and is composed the also cover the man in the background to get the audience thinking on why he is limping and how he got his injury. Also it is a old black and white film so it makes it harder for the audience to see his face and blocks out the colours to also make the audience think in what colours he is wearing and so on. There is a long shot of the car racing down the main street and missing the stop sign. This shows he is in a hurry but no one understands why he is in a hurry inwhich makes the audience think why he is racing down the road and not taking into consideration what may happen if he hit the worker and what not. The man steps out onto a office block and another man appears this is shown in a mid/close angled shot, we still do not see the man face butt we see the old small mans face inwhich gets the audience re thinking why have we not seen this mans face yet. He then takes the unkonown man into the lift and still we see no sign of what the man looks like and why he is in this buliding. It then becomes clear to the audience that it is infact insurance company and we see a close up shot of the mans face and to fine out his name is Mr Neath.
Mise-En-Scene
the film is set in Los Angeles we can see this because at the begging of the film it clearly shows a sign of it saying Los Angeles. The unknown man Mr Neath his costume is a suit and this reinforces that he is a bussiness man and then reminds the audience by showing on the door Insurance. the facial expressions shown by Mr Neath is confused and showing missunderstanding judgement expessions,on what is going on and looks worried about a certain thing inwhich may be occouring at the moment he stepped into the office or why he was hurring down the street at a high speed to sort something out.
Editing
There is not much editing in the opening of this film. It just shows shot to shot action an match on action. which slows the pace of the film down.
Sound
There is a lot of non-diegetic sounds in this film as we only hear music for the opening sequence which sets the mood and gets the audience thinking why have music running through instead of people talking and cars driving.
Why is it a good opening sequence for a thriller
It gets you thinking why do you have a car speeding down a road and missing the stop sign and also why do we not see his face until a short while into the film this makes the audience think why and how, does he have the rights to not be seen just yet and who is he and what does he do for a living all mounts up to thinking about what the film is about and how the story line will progess as we move much more deeper into the film
